Our new team. - the Yacumamas - an enormous serpent believed to live in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. The Cherokee Indians told a similar legend of the serpent living right here in western North Carolina.
This season-long event series celebrates diversity and is designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate most with our local Latino community.
About the Yacumamas / Sobre los Yacumamas
Legend has it the ferocious, 100-foot-long Yacumama, a snake-like creature known also as the "Mother of Water," lurks in the waters of both the Amazon River and Western North Carolina. Like its baseball team and community, the mythical creature personifies a storied history of being a fierce and identifiable force.
Cuenta la leyenda que la Yacumama es una creatura conocida como la "Madre del Agua", parecida a una serpiente, que mide alrededor de 100 pies y merodea por las aguas del Rio Amazonas y el oeste de Carolina del Norte. Esta creatura personifica la fuerza y la ferocidad las cuales son características del equipo de béisbol y su comunidad.
